Why client communication is the highest-leverage automation target
Walk into any consumer-facing law firm at 10 AM on a Tuesday and watch what the paralegals are actually doing. A significant chunk of their hour is going to one of these:

The 20 percent looks like:
- Complaints about the firm or attorney
- Fee disputes
- Settlement strategy questions
- Anything mentioning malpractice
- Emotionally distressed clients
- Novel legal questions outside the case scope
- Anything ambiguous or hard to classify

Failure mode 4: One-channel only

Questions to ask before you buy
When you sit down with a vendor, these questions separate real partners from product demos. Ask all six. Their answers tell you whether the product was built for law firms or just relabeled for them.
1. Does it start in draft mode by default?
If the answer is no, walk away. If they say 'yes, but you can disable it,' ask why anyone would.
2. Can I change auto-send rules myself, in plain English, without opening a support ticket?
If you need a developer, you don't have control.
3. What gets escalated to a human automatically, and can I expand that list anytime?
There should be non-negotiable escalations (malpractice, complaints, attorney unhappiness) that you can never disable. There should also be a customizable list you grow.
4. Does it integrate with my actual CRM via API?
Browser automation is fragile. API integration is reliable. The difference matters when your CRM ships a UI update.
5. Is it one AI across all my channels, or separate products bolted together?
Cross-channel correlation only works when one AI sees everything.
6. What does failure look like, and what's the refund policy?
A real partner takes risk on launch. Look for refundable deposits and launch guarantees, not 'we'll fix it eventually' language.
